Energy Storage
Hybridization and Energy Storage

Energy Storage allows for Hybrid Inudstrial Power Systems which operate more efficiently.

741 is currently developing a larger scale of flexible energy storage options which will enable ‘islanded’ electrical systems to become hybrids, thereby capturing the kinetic energy generated by a descending machine and storing it in a cabinet.

While our high-power DC-DC conversion topologies have been finely tuned by our hardware partners, our current developments focus on the application software to allow for adaptive hybrid operation schemes:

BRAKE: Store descent energy for re-injection during ascent (winch application)

BRIDGE: Sipping baseline energy from mains to ride through (bridge) a sudden increase in load

BACKUP: Providing for as much transient ride-through time as possible (similar to a UPS)

Advantages

Brake:
Dramatically speed up winch operation times

Bridge:
All for diesel generator engines to operate closer to their best full-load operating efficiencies
Reduce soot discharge from diesel stacks (ship in harbor)

Distributed Storage via DC/DC Conversion

We design and implement DC energy storage and transfer solutions for the following applications:

Synthesized Spinning Reserve for renewable power sources

Hybridization of large machinery for:

Optimal engine-generator performance
Management of high-power bursts of regenerated kinetic energy

Depending on the application, we are able to incorporate Lithium battery packs, or high-current Ultracapacitors.  We are pleased to be using Ultracapacitor modules by Maxwell Technologies.
