Reports to the Service Manager. Receives general supervision from customer representatives who provide instruction and assign work onsite. Assists and/or works under the direction of a 741 Automation Field Engineer to fault find and troubleshoot automated and electrical control systems associated with power electronics functional specification.

Core Role: Install, diagnose faults, test, repair and maintain power electronics (e.g. Variable Frequency Drives, AFE, DC / DC converters) and their associated supporting devices.

Experience: Five years of experience in industrial, electrical, and/or power electronic repair and maintenance or a related field, as well as:

  • Safety practices and precautions observed in industrial environments. (e.g. O&E, chemical, food processing and product plants)
  • Has held a position as an Electronic Technician I or similar role.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic device testing and circuitry.
  • Use of electrical meters and diagnostic testing tools.
  • Microsoft Office and software-based diagnostics tools.
  • Use of Power Electronic or PLC PC diagnostic and monitoring software tools.

Educational Preference:

  • An associates degree in electronics or a certificate from a recognized school above the high school level in electronics or electrical engineering may be substituted for the required experience.

Job Specification:

  • In House – Assists 741 Solutions with production and repair.
    • Complies with safety practices, department assembly, repair and test procedures.
    • Performs troubleshooting and testing as directed by production, assembly, and repair supervisors.
    • Documents scope of work, time, and test results as required by production and assembly procedures.
  • Field Service – Provide services on customer job sites.
    • Communicates scope of work with customer representatives and ensures work is performed in accordance with customer safety practices, policies and procedures.
      • Supervises, provides guidance, and assists with training of Electronic Power Tech I personnel.
      • Diagnoses faults and failure of power electronic devices and their supporting components though the use of power electronic manufacturer software tools and diagnostic procedures.
      • Replaces defective parts in the repairing and maintenance of power electronic components.
      • Documents scope of work performed, materials used, and time on a service ticket.
      • Documents expenses incurred during travel and through the completion of the services rendered.
      • Submits service tickets and expenses within 24 hours of completing services.
      • Writes service reports to undocumented test methods and procedures used resolve faults and failures. Submits reports to Service Manager for review.
      • Writes detailed service reports on the jobsite when requested by the customer and/or when additional documentation is required. The time spent completing service reports both onsite and offsite are deemed billable. In the instance that staying onsite will interfere with ongoing operations and/or departure of a vessel, the service report can be completed offsite upon customer approval.
      • Communicates and assists Automations Field Engineer when scope of work elevates to automated control system diagnostics and/or integrity testing of the automated system functional specifications.
      • Assists with assessments to maintain inventory of power electronic components and/or electrical equipment for vendors.

      WORKING CONDITIONS:

      • Power Electronic Technicians stand for prolonged periods of time.
      • Travel to domestic and international work locations on a waiting to engage basis
      • Exposure to hazards associated with the maintenance and repair of low voltage power electronics and Switchgear.
      • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.

        KNOWLEDGE / SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

      • Knowledge of the basic principles, theories, maintenance, and repair practices associated with Power Electronics and their associated controllers.
      • Knowledge of the safety practices and precautions required to minimize and mitigate risks associated with the diagnosis, repair, and testing of power electronic components.
      • Knowledge of calibration and tuning of power electronic components.
      • Use of hand-held tools, wire strippers, crimpers, screwdrivers, and torque wrenches.
      • Ability to understand and apply the laws, rules, regulations, procedures, guidelines, policies, etc. governing work environments and assigned work scope.
      • Ability to research and gather information required to accomplish assigned scope of work by examining historical maintenance records and technical manuals.
      • Ability to provide verbal, written instructions, procedures, guidelines, and policies, etc. to customers and 741 Solutions personnel onsite.
      • Ability to deal tactfully with customers and colleagues in a time-critical production environment.
      • Ability to exercise sound judgment and determine when additional support is required to accomplish assigned scope of work.
      • Ability to communicate with onsite customer representatives to effectively plan and execute approved scope of work.
      • Ability to provide accurate accounts of service details and reports in legible written form.

Core Role: Applies analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve power electronics (e.g. Variable Frequency Drives, AFE, DC / DC converters) faults and failures efficiently. This includes the ability to analyze data from automated systems, understand functional requirements, and apply statistical analysis to restore power electronics and/or industrial machine functions.

Experience:

· 5 to 10 years in industrial environment safety practices, mechanical, electrical, power electronics and control systems.

Educational Preference:

· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field such as electrical engineering, computer science or robotics.

· 10 years of experience in a related field is acceptable pending review of work history. Experience with power electronics is preferable.

Job Specification:

· In House – Travel to 741 Solutions will be associated with preparation for Field Service.

o Training

o Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)

o Set up controls system simulation for testing of automated system functional specifications and network communication associate with commissioning power electronics components.

o Organize, pick up and hand carry materials to jobsites.

· Field Service – Attending service jobs at customer sites.

o Communicate scope of work with customer representatives and ensure work is performed in accordance with customer safety practices, policies, procedures and industry “best practices”.

o Diagnose/troubleshoot industrial control systems and power electronic faults and failures.

o Replace defective or failed power electronic components.

o Document fault finding and troubleshooting techniques for future reference and training.

o Field commissioning of new and retrofit power electronics and their associated control systems.

o Provide technical support for internal Power Electronic Technicians and customer/client personnel as defined in service contracts.

o Collaborate with 741 Solutions’ technical and engineering support personnel to resolve software and design related issues.

o Identify opportunities for improvement for internal and customer operations.

· Knowledge or PLC hardware (e.g. WAGO, SIEMENS, ALLEN BRADLEY) and their associated programming languages.

· Proficient in the use of PLC and Power electronics software tools.

· Knowledge of the safety practices and precautions required to minimize and mitigate risks associated with the diagnosis, repair, and testing of power electronic components.

· Knowledge of calibration and tuning of power electronic components.

· Ability to understand and apply the laws, rules, regulations, procedures, guidelines, policies, etc. governing work environments and assigned work scope.

· Ability to research and gather information required to accomplish assigned scope work by examining historical maintenance records and technical manuals.

· Ability to provide verbal and written instructions, procedures, guidelines, policies, etc. to customers and 741 Solutions personnel onsite.

Assess simple power control system modifications that simplify or improve performance of the apparatus used in manufactured products or electrical testing equipment; includes performing calculation required to properly size electrical components selected.
